The Land Agenda — Let’s talk Timelines again April 24, 2011

I made this little art piece above my door last week, if you can see all the way to the left it reads “The Land Agenda”.  The Land Agenda is simply:

Buy land by the time I’m 30.

So, that’s four years people. Not very long! But also not tomorrow. I remember sometimes that I’ve been here in SF for just over 2.5 years and have created sooo much, 4 years is a long time. But it is also very short and there are many things to figure out before a group buys land together, which is also part of The Land Agenda. So it’s really:

Buy land with a group by the time I’m 30.

QUESTION for the delightful masses: What is your ideal timeline? Don’t worry about mine, just state honestly what feels good to you right now in your life for a timeline.

Love,

Lily

Symbol October 30, 2010

Should RA have a symbol/logo? Any volunteers?

Also: I’ve been caught reading that cabin book at work several times already and it always leads to some interesting conversations. One particularly memorable encounter had this old country woman ranting about how she just turned sixty and finally got her cabin after all these years and that to never EVER give up on your dream and it will happen. She repeated that last bit several times. It was touching. Thought I would share it with you all! Keep the dream alive!

So going forward… August 25, 2010

It’s super late as I type this so please forgive me if I sound a bit curt! Anywho, RainbowAcre is one of my longer term goals in life. Unlike my other long term goals, I have little idea on how to prepare for this. I lack direction in what to do to achieve this goal. Jumping in headfirst and living on an IC seems like the most logical step but to be honest I have not assessed as to whether that is a realistic option for my current life situation. A part of me wants to browse available acreage around the country to get an idea of property costs but I am unsure how to quantify my search. So I thought… why not read a book? (too tired to successfully make a comedic reference to Reading Rainbow). I know that the Creating A Life Together has been floating around, but I was wondering if

1) anyone had some other IC type book recommendations and

2) if they wanted to tag team that sucker. Maybe discuss what parts are relevant to our proposed situation.

Let me know because I just got paid and Amazon.com is quite the alluring mistress! Must. Buy. Books.

Road Trip 2k10 April 5, 2010

Filed under: Question: Needs Input,Random Stuff — indorfpf @ 2:27 pm

Going on a road trip within the next three weeks to visit farms/ecovillages in NoCal. If anyone wants to come, let me know when you’re available (my unemployment leaves me quite flexible for scheduling). Don’t really plan on going to much farther north than Sebastopol. If there are any suggestions for places to check please also let me know. I haven’t really decided how long it’ll be as I want to cater somewhat to anyone who might want to come but in general I envisage a weekend jaunt. My truck can fit two others. Bring camping gear. Following are the list of places contacted and a copy of the email sent.

Green Gulch

Living Mandala

Emerald Earth

Golden Nectar

Occidental Arts and Ecology Center

Green Valley Village

Hello! My name is Philip. I’m currently living in San Francisco and am in a part of my life where I am researching the intentional community lifestyle to see what my forebears have created to see if I can adopt some of these activities into my own life. In furthering this particular quest of mine, I came across your website and was hoping that I could come visit! I would be driving there in my truck and sleeping either in that or nestled on some nice patch of grass. In exchange for you letting me park there I would not mind at all helping out with whatever project is going on that day. My purpose is to stay there a day or two and imbibe as much information and feeling as possible. If this is something that you would not mind happening please send me a reply! Any suggestions on best times to come are appreciated! Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy the great weather today! Philip Indorf

Key words April 4, 2010

This is our current writing on our community vision stripped of conjunctions and such. These are the words that appear most. The bigger the word, the more it appears in our writing.

*Editor’s note: Please Add Your Thoughts to the Pages March 2, 2010

Filed under: Question: Needs Input,Vision — lily @ 6:06 am

This post is spurred in response to Clara’s excellent questions about what this blog is for.  So, lovelies, take note that there are two categories of content-adding available here: there are posts, and there are pages.

If you go to Edit under Pages (on the left also) then you can add your thoughts to these as well, and they can be more like documents that grow, as opposed to the more conversational posts.  I have made two pages so far: “community vision”, and “what is this blog for?”.   Check out what Phil and I have added so far, and put down your thoughts.

I am going to think a little more on my perspective on how we invite a wider circle of participants… who, how, and to what purpose.

love,

lily

p.s.  also note that the blog title, currently “wouldn’t it be fun to live love life together” is mutable and should be played with. find it under “Settings, General”

Social habits March 1, 2010

An idea that hit me this past weekend is that the purpose of Project: First Trimester is less about making a commune and more about creating a place for our commune to go. What I mean by this is that the seeds for an intentional community are already here. There is no reason to wait for the place we hope to inhabit in the future to manifest itself. We can start instituting those policies we want our commune to have today.

I bring this up so that ideas can be shared about those primarily group social habits that we might want to start practicing. Granted, from a personal standpoint, it is hard for me to come up with concrete examples. Obvious habits that stem from living together are already in place – cleaning up after oneself, chore schedules, open communication, etc. Other non-basic habits that I approve and promote are in their infantile stages: weekly sharing of meals, house book club, musical instrumentation, gardening, dinner massives.

So what social events or policies exist in your ideal intentional community? Is it possible to instill these now? Please share!

-Phil
